Oklahoma Journal on OKCTalk!

by Steve Lackmeyer

For the past several years, Oklahoma City native Peter Brzycki has operated OKCTalk, a community website that includes a great nostalgia section.  OKCTalk.com, working in conjunction with the Atkinson Heritage Center and Rose State College, has published a huge library of historic Oklahoma Journal newspapers.  The center and college are the repository if these archives and have provided scanned images in PDF format to OKCTalk to post on its website.

The Oklahoma Journal was published from 1963 to 1980.  OKCTalk has uploaded all of the issues between October 1, 1964 and September 1, 1980; over 5,500 electronic files.  OKCTalk is also working on creating a searchable index for the entire library.

The issues can be found here:

Access to these files are free of charge but any use should contain a citation for both the Atkinson Heritage Center and Rose State College, as well as OKCTalk.com.

OKCTalk is the largest discussion forum in the state of Oklahoma, featuring many topics of local interest.  There is an extensive nostalgia forum, which features high resolution aerial images of all of Oklahoma City from September 30, 1969.  Thousands visit OKCTalk every day and the site features more than half a million posts.
