  1. Oklahoma City has been home to more than six amusement parks: Colcord Park, the state’s first opened in 1902 and was later renamed Delmar Gardens closing in 1910; Wheeler Park, started in 1910 and became the Oklahoma City Zoo, and Belle Isle started in 1908 and closed in 1928.
But, the last three parks may be the best remembered – Springlake Amusement Park, Wedgewood and today’s Frontier City.

    • You left out Blackhawk Amusement Park, which closed around 1960. Located at NE 23rd and Grand Boulevard, in OKC.

Thanks for sharing the video. I haven’t seen the inside of Springlake Amusement Park since I was a child. At age 7 i went there with my parent’s and 3 older siblings for the 1st time to a then radio station WKY’s(now KFOR) employee appreciation Day.(My dad was an employee there) We and another family were the only African Americans there. Later i remember staring out our back door window (we lived across the field from the park) in a neighborhood cul-de-sac (Casper Dr.) that was accessible from MLk Blvd then known as Eastern Blvd. We kids begged my mom to take us there again. She tried to explain that we were only allowed in there on Easter Sunday. Yes, I was an 8yr old frightened kid at the park the day the riot broke out. EVEN with all that as a child I didn’t fully comprehend “racism” those two times there were memorable for me. Many nights my siter and I would lie in bed listenting to the laughter & the rides coming from the park…probably Johnny Cash and Conway Twitty. The Wild Mouse, the roller coaster…

  3. THANK YOU FOR SHARING; BROUGHT BACK SOME WONDERFUL MEMORIES; GEEZ I THINK I SAW MYSELF ON ONE OF THE RIDES; NOT SURE THOUGH; DEPENDS ON THE YEAR THIS WAS TAKEN.

  4. Thank you for posting this video. It brought back some awesome memories!

  5. Thanks for this video. I have very little home “silent”:) video of our visits to the park. It’s interspersed into the other vacation film. My most vivid memory is of someone on the skyway ride spitting from the bucket and it hitting me on the shoulder. I was about 8 years old and it was so gross. Funny now, still gross, but funny. Loved the concerts in the amphitheater.

  6. Iam 91 yrs old and I remember as a teenager riding the street
Car to Spring lake in the summer to hangout at the pool with
Friends. Also my father worked at Kerr Dept store and once a
Summer they had a big picnic for all the employees. All the
Rides were free and I loved the big dipper. This was the big deal of the summer.
At this stage of my life it takes a lot more to excite
Me. Have gone on tandem skydives 5 yrs in a row. The last
Time on my 9th BD. Also a African safari last yr.
